A simple hello
Good morning folks.
I want to share something that is on my mind, and I hope it has some small impact on your day-to-day relations with other human beings. As I walk to work, passing natural beauty and plenty of fellow humans, I always try to keep my eyes open for photographic opportunities, a smile on my face and a morning greeting on my tongue.
This beautiful morning, I said good morning or howdy to just about everyone I passed and can you guess how many greetings I received back? If you said very few, you’d be correct. You know what really blows my mind? Of the four people to return my simple greeting, three were people with special needs. They were very sincere, and even wished me a great holiday! What a huge difference from the woman who stared at me like I was crazy just for wishing her a good morning. In talking with a friend the other day, we got on the topic of how few people do simple things, like hold a door open for you… and I mentioned too that even when I hold the door open for someone I rarely get the courtesy of a thank you.
What a strange world we live in! Our friends with special needs are warm and open and caring, and the “normal” ones are cold, silent, and unappreciative.
Something to think about on a beautiful day like this. Spread some cheer people! Hold a door open, smile, say hello.
Have a great holiday!

I know what you mean. I always make a point of saying thank you when people hold the elevator, and starting up conversations about the weather or the fact thats it’s Friday. Most of the time people don’t say anything or they avoid eye contact. If I can make someone smile then I’ve done good that day.

There is a HUGE lack of eye contact among people. It’s really weird! Eye contact is such a real way of feeling emotion when communicating.
